THE REFUGE
Nestled at the foot of the Pale di San Martino Dolomite Group, the Petina Refuge is located at 1200m and is part of the wonderful panorama enclosed within the Paneveggio-Pale di San Martino Nature Park and is surrounded by the magnificent peaks of Madonna, Sass Maor and Cimerlo.
Our hut is located in close proximity to two Integral Protected Areas, where you can listen to the call of the Capercaillie and admire the majestic flight of the Golden Eagle, a sign of a perfect balance between the protection prerogatives of the Park and the centuries-old human working activity, to which our Refuge bears witness.
Born as a rural peasant rural property, it was later transformed into an inn and refreshment point, to finally become a Refuge in 1976, always maintaining its typical architecture made of larch logs and stone. An easy and panoramic walk takes you to the nearby Canali Valley, one of the most beautiful valleys in the Dolomites, where you can visit Villa Welsperg, the ancient residence of the Tyrolean Counts of the same name, lords of Primiero, and current base of the Park and Visitor Centre.
A lot of CAI-SAT paths branch off from Canali Valley, along which you can reach the Pradidali Refuge, the Velo Refuge and the Treviso Refuge. Val Canali can rightly be defined as the ‘Valley of the Ferrate’ with a dozen routes suitable for all types of hikers.
